TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

I. The Award

    A. This award is presented to recognize a member of AMTA for excellence in teaching, musicianship, and service to AMTA and/or the community.
    B. The award will be presented at the Conference Banquet.
    C. The award will include a plaque, recognition in the AMTA Soundboard and in the conference program, and a waiver of fees for the conference and banquet.

II. General Procedures

    A. Teacher of the Year Award Committee
      1. A standing committee of three persons will be appointed by the President to be in charge of the gathering of information and determining the winner of this award. They will be appointed for two/year terms.
      2. The members of the committee will consist of the Immediate Past President (Chair of the committee) and two members from different areas of the state.
    B. Nomination forms may be downloaded here.
    C. Nomination of a teacher in any medium will be accepted from local AMTA affiliated associations or individual AMTA members.
    D. It is the responsibility of the nominator or nominating group (not the nominee nor the Award Committee) to see that the application is complete.
    E. Completed applications should be sent to the Immediate Past President by March 15th.

III. Minimum Requirements

    A. The nominee must be a member in good standing of MTNA and AMTA.
    B. The nominee must have a minimum of five years teaching experience.
    C. The nominee must have had students participating in AMTA District and/or State Auditions for the past three years.

IV. Information to be included with the nomination (outlined on the Nomination Form)

    A. Current MTNA membership number
    B. A summary of teaching experience
    C. Achievements of the nomineeís students including numbers entered, ratings, winners, etc., in various AMTA and/or MTNA auditions for the past three years.
    D. A brief philosophy of teaching music
    E. A statement by the nominator indicating why the person is being nominated
    F. A brief resume including the following:
      1. A description of the nomineeís involvement in community musical activities
      2. A list of musical achievements of former students
      3. A summary of activities from the last five years resulting in professional growth, such as workshops (held or attended), publications, conferences, college courses, recitals, accompanying, performances, adjudicating, leadership activities, honors, AMTA and/or MTNA certification, etc.
    G. Additional letters of recommendation from colleagues, parents, and/or students
