Membership
How to become a member
Membership in Alabama Music Teachers Association is open to anyone
involved in the Music profession, and is not limited to those persons
living in Alabama.
Information about the organization and an application form may be
requested
from the Second Vice-President for Membership. In order to become a
member
of AMTA, one must also be, or become, a member of Music Teachers
National
Association. These memberships are procured by sending in the
application
form to MTNA (see address below) with the pertinent information and the
required
fees. This information is then relayed to the AMTA Membership VP, who
will
then issue the new member a Student Activities Handbook and a
Membership
Directory.I. 2008-2009 MTNA Dues Amounts
- Active Memberships $61.00
Active Membership is open to all individuals who are professionally
engaged in any field of music activity and who are also members of an
affiliated (state) association.
Within the Active Membership category is the senior discount policy.
Effective with the 2001-2002 membership year a discount of 25 % on national
dues was granted to members 70 years of age or older. The dues amount is
$42.00. However, the 70 year of age rule does not impact members who
currently receive a 50% discount. Those members who received a 50%
reduction in national dues during the 2000-2001 membership year and prior
are grandfathered in under the 50% reduction. The dues amount is $28.00.
- Collegiate Membership $12.00
Collegiate Membership is open to all college students currently involved
in music study, who are also members of an affiliated association.
Collegiate members are entitled to the same privileges as Active members,
but do not have the right to vote, hold office or enter students in MTNA
competitions as a Collegiate Member. Upon graduation from college an MTNA
student member may receive a 50% discount on national dues when changing
their membership category from student to active.
- Retired Membership $30.50
Retired Membership is open to those who have been active members for at
least 20 continuous years, who have reached the age of 75, and who have
essentially retired from teaching. A member must send written notice to the
Executive Director for this class of membership to be activated. Retired
members may vote, but cannot hold elective office at division or national
levels or enter students in MTNA competitions. A Retired member must also
belong to a state affiliated association.
- International Membership $61.00
International Membership is open to nationals of other countries and US
citizens residing in countries outside the US and its territories. The do
not have the right to vote, hold office, or enter students in MTNA
competitions.
- Institutional Membership $200.00
Institutional Membership is open to those institutions that have an
interest in furthering the mission of MTNA. Institutional members do not
have the right to vote, hold office, or enter students in MTNA competitions.
However, the music executive of each Institutional Member who has paid the
appropriate state membership dues has all the rights and privileges of
Active Membership.
- Corporate Membership $200.00
Corporate Membership is open to those businesses or corporations that
have an interest in furthering the mission of MTNA. Corporate members do
not have the right to vote or hold office.
- Patron Membership $75.00
Patron Membership is open to all individuals who wish to support the
programs of the Association. Patron members do not have the right to vote,
hold office, or enter students in MTNA competitions.
