Benefits of joining the AMTA:

  • Educational opportunities for its members:

    • Annual conference providing various presentations and performances from nationally and internationally recognized musicians

    • Local associations offering clinics and workshops

    • Tri-annual newsletter

  • Performance opportunities for students

    • AMTA sponsors district and state level solo auditions for piano, organ, voice, guitar, and orchestral instruments

    • AMTA auditions provide:

      • a written evaluation of the performance

      • a written evaluation of theory/technique

      • a progression of musicianship skills that will prepare the average student for entry into a college music program

      • feedback to teachers as to the effectiveness of their curriculum

    • Concerto auditions, state level only

    • AMTA participates in the Music Teachers National Association performance and composition competitions at the elementary, junior, senior, and young artist levels

    • Many local associations offer additional performances through hymn festivals, sonata/sonatina competitions, and recitals

    • Five AMTA student scholarships are awarded during the spring state auditions and are presented at the annual state conference
